On Becoming a Celebrant - Part 2
Here, I remember ceremonies from my own life, which shaped my values and strengthened my resolve as a celebrant.
Early memories of Irish wakes leave me with a strong sense of the importance of togetherness. Conversely, there is a recurring theme of not being able to speak freely at weddings and funerals. I wish for my ceremonies to be remembered for enabling participation.
On Becoming a Celebrant - Part 1
In explaining why I chose to become a celebrant at this stage of my life, I give my view of modern celebrancy and how it fits my values. I know we are often encouraged to put on a ‘professional’ front and act almost as if there isn’t a real human being behind the role. I don’t want to do that - I want to share my personal and professional perspectives.
