I'm Kate Mukungu, an independent community celebrant and experienced event host based in South Shields. I work with community organisations, charities, businesses and civic groups across Newcastle, Gateshead, South Tyneside, North Tyneside, Sunderland, Northumberland and County Durham to create events that leave people feeling valued, inspired and connected.

Before becoming a celebrant for weddings, funerals, naming ceremonies and community events, I spent over twenty-five years working in community development. This experience includes twelve years as a charity chief executive. As part of this significant body of experience, I've hosted graduation ceremonies, annual general meetings, awards evenings, community consultations, and large public gatherings.
I don't just bring celebrant skills to your event. I bring a genuine understanding of how community organisations work. I know what matters to the people in the room, and how to hold a gathering that feels both professionally run and deeply human-centred. It is all about community, after all.

What Does Kate Do at Your Community Event?
I work with each organisation individually to understand your event, your audience, and the tone you want to create.
My specific role can be shaped entirely around your event needs. I can facilitate the full running order, introduce key speakers and manage transitions between segments. I can also deliver ceremonial content, such as speeches, tributes and commemorations. My focus is on reflecting what is great about your organisation to give your special occasion weight and meaning. I am skilled at keeping your audience engaged and the atmosphere warm throughout. I act as a calm, experienced presence so that you and your team are free to focus on your guests.
I understand the many pressures event organisers manage simultaneously. Your mind is on logistics including catering, staffing, health and safety and social media. My job is to take the ceremonial and hosting elements completely off your plate, and to make sure the people in the room feel they are being handled with care.
